“Making AI relevant to people’s roles.”
Adoption is only the starting point. Our goal is to turn AI capability into better ways of working across Mimecast and greater value for our customers. PAIR helps bring that ambition to life by making AI relevant to people’s roles.

Tim Seamans

CEO

AI use at Mimecast first gained momentum in product and engineering. Clear direction from senior leadership helped technical teams engage with AI masterclasses, and their progress gave the wider workforce confidence to follow.

For other teams, the path was less straightforward. People often began with familiar tasks such as drafting emails or answering questions. As they saw what was possible, their expectations grew. They wanted to do more, but needed help understanding how.

Employees needed to recognize where AI could improve their own work and develop the capability to act on those opportunities. Central technical teams could help scale larger solutions, but they could not solve every problem people encountered across the business.

People were already building impressive agents and workflows, but those breakthroughs were not consistently being shared. Their value often stayed with the individuals who created them, limiting what others could learn or reuse. Mimecast needed to help those ideas travel while maintaining clear expectations around approved tools, confidential information and responsibility for outputs.

The challenge would keep evolving. As AI became more capable, Mimecast needed its people, working methods and governance to evolve alongside it.

The solution: helping people apply AI and adapt how work gets done

Mimecast combined visible executive backing with grassroots efforts to demonstrate value. PAIR helped connect that ambition to employees’ day-to-day responsibilities, giving people a way to explore AI through the work they needed to accomplish.

Role-specific masterclasses help employees create something useful as they develop their skills. That immediate relevance gives each person a reason to start experimenting and sparks curiosity about what else is possible. As their confidence grows, they can move beyond the chat function and consider which tasks could be delegated to agents.

This approach puts people closest to the work in a position to improve it. Employees bring their knowledge of the task, customer and business context; AI gives them new ways to act on that knowledge. Technical teams can then help where solutions require broader integration or enterprise scale.

Mimecast also connects PAIR masterclasses and certification with its requirements for retaining access to Claude Cowork. Capability becomes part of how the company manages powerful tools, alongside its central AI policies and governance. Employees need to understand how to use those tools responsibly, including what information they can share and when human review is required.

Mimecast reinforces adoption through AI champions and stewards across the business. Champions share useful workflows in fortnightly office hours, helping colleagues identify opportunities in their own work. Stewards maintain the knowledge behind internal tools such as Ask Mimecast and support the process changes needed to make them effective.

PAIR supports the underlying capability, while Mimecast’s leaders and internal networks help embed it into how teams operate. As new AI capabilities emerge, PAIR’s updated content helps Mimecast bring them to its workforce without having to create every piece of enablement itself.

“PAIR makes the value of AI tangible. People leave the masterclasses with something they can use in their work that day. That’s when it clicks, and when they start seeing more value from our investment in AI.”

Tim Seamans

VP of AI Transformation and Acceleration, Mimecast

The results: time saved, better work and greater fulfilment

Mimecasters report saving 3.5 hours per week, equivalent to approximately 4.5 working weeks per year. 91% report producing higher-quality work, and 85% feel more fulfilled.

These reported outcomes show the human value of building AI capability: giving people time back, helping them improve their work and making that work more rewarding.

In Mimecast’s marketing team, a recurring process that previously required 20–30 minutes of hands-on work, six or seven times a day, now runs through agents and automation after a person initiates it.

The team retains human control at the start of the process, while the subsequent steps run automatically. It also added data-quality checks that had not been part of the original workflow.

Mimecast leadership points to this as an example of the productivity gains teams are finding with AI. Employees have changed how the work happens, reducing manual involvement and introducing additional checks along the way.

Mimecast also reports that managers, directors and VPs have described finding more value from Mimecast’s AI investment through the partnership with PAIR. The value becomes clearer when employees can apply new capabilities to work that matters in their roles.

That focus extends to Mimecast’s customers. As part of its broader AI strategy, the company is applying AI to customer health checks. Customer value representatives use available telemetry to help customers understand configuration gaps and improve the value they get from their security environment.

Together, these examples illustrate the ambition behind workforce adoption: helping people improve processes, use their expertise more effectively and deliver greater value to customers.

The future: making AI a team sport

For Mimecast, the next stage is making AI a team sport. Individual breakthroughs matter, but their value grows when others can understand, adapt and build on them.

Mimecast wants shared skills, workflows and agents to become a larger part of how teams operate. That means helping people discover what colleagues have built, understand where it could be useful and take responsibility for maintaining the tools and knowledge others rely on.

The company is also exploring how demonstrated capability could inform access to more AI credits. As usage becomes a greater part of AI cost, connecting allowances with progression could give employees a clearer route to increased access and help leaders decide where greater investment is justified.

As AI evolves, Mimecast’s priorities will keep changing: which workflows to scale, what people need to learn next, how to maintain responsible use and where investment can create the most value. Its partnership with PAIR is developing alongside those needs, connecting workforce capability with decisions about access and future resource allocation.

The continuing opportunity is to make AI useful to more people in more meaningful ways, with their expertise and judgment shaping how work changes across the business.

The real value for me isn’t just getting work done faster. It’s what that time gives me back. I can spend more of it talking to brokers, staying close to our associations, and investing in the relationships that matter to Stellar.
